We as a group are long experienced in working with individuals who have been
sexually abused as children or youth. The scars created by such abuse may
not surface until well into adulthood, even middle age or later. When one
is struggling with these wounds it is beneficial not to do so alone.
Anyone who has been abused will need to deal with the aftershock. Many
suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. If the abuse was by a clergy
member or a religious, there can be the added spiritual burden and pain which is
associated with one's religious and spiritual affiliation. We have a long
history of working with individuals who have been abused by clergy.
Additionally, clergy themselves who were abused as children or youth by older
clergy or religious have a unique cross as they try to minister in their own
life. This cross need NOT be carried alone, and we are willing and able to
help. Healing of the soul is a prime reason we want to be available to
wounded clergy or religious. It is very difficult for them to reach out
for help within their particular denominations, and so we offer what we can to
provide professional counseling, peer support, and the encouragement for each
wounded person to regain the sense of personal control of his or her life in a
HEALTHY way.
It is vital that anyone who has been sexually abused as a child get the help
needed to deal and heal. Statistics tell us that 2/3 of those abused go on
to abuse others in some horrendous way, sexually, psychologically, physically,
emotionally, spiritually. Only 1/3 are able to channel their need for power
and
control in a healthy way, often by providing strength to others, rather than
power over others. Choose to be in that 1/3!
We
KNOW about abuse by and among clergy and religious, and have many years working
with individuals who have experienced this horror. We are dedicated to
helping in the healing process.
